FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is it that you do?

Clients hire me because they need their company to have a  powerful visual impact on a specific target market. I use marketplace data to discover what makes your customers tick, and create distinct visual identities based upon this knowledge. I take companies to the next level, increasing profits through improved recognition, appeal, and customer retention.

A brand’s visual identity should be thought of as an investment, not an expense. The stronger your brand, the more likely people will seek it out and pay for it.

How much does it cost to work with you?

Prices vary depending upon the client's needs. If you need a team to collaborate on your large-scale project that was due yesterday and you need to get a board of 10 directors to approve, the cost will be different than if you have a flexible deadline and fewer deliverables.

I'm not the cheapest designer around, but I'm not the most expensive either. Generally, projects begin at $750 and up for a brand identity system. Websites and strategy are $2500 and up. I’m happy to send a quote or give a range when I have more details on your project.

I know a student/designer/service that's cheaper. Can you lower your prices to their range?

No, design isn't a commodity. “A commodity is anything for which there is demand, but which is supplied without qualitative differentiation across a market. In other words, copper is copper. Rice is rice. Stereos, on the other hand, have many levels of quality. And, the better a stereo is, the more it will cost.”

It is important that designer and client are a good match on all levels. I value all of my clients and their projects, as my name goes on every piece I create. Clients should also value their designers.

How long will it take you to finish ______ ?

While I often am able to do rush projects, I highly recommend allowing at least a few weeks for a brand identity (3-5 weeks is preferable), and a few months for a larger scale project like a website or set of printed pieces (3-5 months is preferable).

Your brand is like a tattoo, it should be permanent. Take some time to get into the process and have fun with it- you'll be glad you did.

What does the process involve?

My process is a bit intense, in a good way! You’re going to have to dive deep and do some serious soul-searching.

I don't create things because I think they "look nice", I create things that sell.
You can find an overview on the "Process" page.

How much of the work in your portfolio is yours? How much was collaborative?

All of the work in my portfolio was 100% completed by me. I have collaborated on larger brands including Asics, Pfister, Stella Artois, Dos Equis, William H. Sadlier, Cobra Golf, and many more. I do not include collaborative projects in my portfolio because I am not comfortable with accepting 100% of the credit when a team of people work collaboratively on a project. However, some of these larger scale projects can be found on the "Clients" page.

You are far away from me, how will this change the process?

I have clients all over the world who have all been a joy to work with. Meeting face-to-face has its perks, but I've found that efficiency is actually increased when we can chat freely via phone and email, and not have to worry about traveling to set meetings.

How can I pay you?

Projects require a 50% downpayment before any work commences. I accept cash, checks, and credit cards. The remaining 50% is paid on client approval and just before I send original artwork.
